Free Really Free
Nothing is Free, Really Free
Everything comes with a price tag. Sooner or later, we all have to pay for what we get. Whether in the form of taxes, fees, or even just the average cost of living, life is always full of expenses. But even though everything comes with a price tag, there are still some things. For example, oxygen costs nothing to breathe, but you have to pay for electricity to power it. And water costs nothing to drink from the tap, but you have to pay for plumbing and sewage systems to bring it to your house.
Despite being accessible in one sense, everything has an associated cost. For example, speech comes with the risk of being offensive to others. Similarly, access to a resource may come at the expense of waiting in line or dealing with congestion. In both cases, individuals must make tradeoffs between what the price may be and what is also valuable.
There are always tradeoffs
There are always tradeoffs when it comes to paying zero dollars for things. For example, if you have a free parking spot, you may have to give up the convenience of walking or taking public transportation. Similarly, if you get a free lunch at your job, you may have to forgo paying for other food items. In both cases, the individual has to weigh the value of the free thing against additional potential costs or benefits. Ultimately, it is up to each individual to decide what is worth sacrificing to obtain a complimentary service or object.
