What exactly do I mean by home improvement?
I love home improvement projects. Projects can be as small as changing a doorknob, hanging pictures, simply changing a light bulb. Before going forward with your DIY Home Improvement Project, no matter how small or large, take your time and make it your goal to get it right the first time.
I am from NYC, where most have an apartment and a landlord. Most of the repairs are built into the rent. If something broke, a phone call would almost always fix it. Since purchasing my home, I have so many improvements, mostly small. My homeowners’ experience has taught me so much, and I have had fun learning. Also, I must stress that saving money by doing some things myself is also very much celebrated.
My overall experience.
I am here now with a newfound respect for every repair and service person I have ever encountered. It takes skill and patience, and those two qualities improve with experience. I have lots of projects I plan to take on in my home. As I learn, I find that it is never simple nor hard. Sorry for the simple and hard confusion, but I surprise myself sometimes when a project is not as hard as I thought it would be.
Sometimes I find that I should of just paid someone to do it for me but what fun is that. I enjoy doing stuff myself and I learn. I am very happy to report that so far I have been lucky to save instead of loose money. But always walk away with a new skill proud of my successes and failures.
But before I take on any project I make sure that I check that I can afford it. The cost of paying someone else to fix it should things go wrong is always added to all expenses. Check out financing post to see my top 3 cost considerations.
Tools everyone should own.
BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX Drill & Home Tool Kit, 68 Piece (LDX120PK), Black/Orange
Even if you are not sure if you plan to take on projects on your own, everyone should have a good set of tools at hand. I have BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX Drill & Home Tool Kit, 68 Piece (LDX120PK), Black/Orange, and less than $80.00. The drill is not too heavy for me to hold and is strong enough to do the job.
